The impact of new technology, both as an enabler and a disruptor, will continue to shake up the status quo of international trade and supply chains globally.  Technological advances in the shipping industry, such as blockchain applications, cargo and vessel tracking, autonomous ships, and the Internet of Things, hold vast opportunities and will have a huge impact on the efficiency of the entire supply chain.

In collaboration with the Global Smart Container Alliance (GSCA), Intermodal Asia 2019 will host a 2-day Smart Shipping and Logistics Forum, facilitating discussions on how increasing automation and digitalization across the shipping supply chain will ensure an increased competitive edge for the future, as well as how new technologies are creating more transparency in the supply chain, whilst encouraging greater profitability, efficiency and resilience.

GSCA representative Jueru Zhang explains, “Participating at Intermodal Asia is very important in the work of the Global Smart Container Industry Alliance…It helps to promote, exchange and enhance cooperation between companies”.

Including sessions from over 53 high-level speakers, senior representatives from IBM Blockchain, will present the latest updates from TradeLens, which, in partnership with Maersk, provides a digital platform that empowers businesses and authorities along the supply chain with a single, secure source of shipping data, enabling more efficient global trade.

Lee Mabie, Vice President, Strategy, Product Development & Marketing, WMS AT&T will lead discussions in the Smart Container Forum, addressing standards and approaches to harmonize the vessel smart container ecosystem. Additionally, Ludovic Lassauce, Director – Mobility, IoT Solutions & Business Development at Tata Communications, will share the latest insight on their technology MOVE™, a borderless, secured and reliable mobile connectivity offering, which delivers a unique global local mobile connectivity experience for enterprise mobility and IoT.

The Smart Shipping & Logistics Programme will also include Forums focused on: Smart Ports, New Technologies to Optimize the Container Logistics Market, Blockchain Technology and The Future of Smart Container Developments.

The collaboration between Intermodal Asia and The GSCA will bring the Chinese and the international shipping community together during the event which will be held at the SWEECC, Shanghai on the 22-24 May. The GSCA – a joint venture alliance comprised of shipping lines, manufacturers and technology providers from across the container supply chain – will bring to the event the knowledge and information from component and system suppliers, together with the expertise of the leading shipping operators of the world.

Running alongside the Smart Shipping & Logistics Forum, and new for 2019, the Technology Zone will provide a focused showcase for some of the latest technologies and solutions within the industry today.
